WGC Stands Up Against Extortionist.
A serial protestor from Ipswich has chosen the wrong Cairns business to pick a fight with.
Williams Graham Carman (WGC), acting on behalf of a client, was successful in a recent case against Mr Rick Williams for the recovery of an unpaid account owing to the client.
Mr Williams, who gave WGC a verbal account of his long picketing career, was unhappy with the Court’s decision and has been picketing the firm’s office on and off for several weeks in August and September.
In addition, in a letter to WGC, Williams has vowed to “strategically dismantle the firm”.
WGC’s Chief Executive Paul Furse says the Court’s decision speaks for itself.
“Mr Williams’s defence was described by the Court as “incomprehensible” and “unlikely to ever constitute an arguable defence” ”, Mr Furse said.
The Office of Fair Trading has investigated the complaint made by Mr Williams against WGC’s client and found there was insufficient evidence to take any action.
Mr Furse said Williams has personally threatened to bring the firm and its’ client undone unless they pay him money.
“Mr Williams has threatened WGC in person, via email and letters, indicating in a recent letter that he’s unlikely to back off in the near future - “Long term I will be back every Winter for three months. I will picket every year for as long as it takes or till I feel that your credibility is destroyed”, Mr Furse said.
“We have genuine concerns that he’s a potential menace not only to us, but to all businesses in Cairns,” Mr Furse said.
“He boasts about having received pay outs from organisations including the Commonwealth Bank, Suncorp, Telstra and Sizzler and brags about an upcoming battle with the Mayor of Redcliffe,” Mr Furse said.
The firm has vowed not to give in to Williams’s extortion demands.
“We acted professionally and ethically in this matter as we have done in all matters over our thirty five years in Cairns and we will not bow down to Mr Williams’s extortion threats.
End.
